Ida Marie Waters was born on May 15, 1949 to the late Mary Pauline Waters. She gained her wings and passed peacefully on March 5, 2025 at the age of 75 with her family by her side.
Ida, along with her sister, Hazel V. Waters and brother Benny T. Waters was placed in the care of Eleanora and George Bratcher, her original foster parents. She was only a year old. After the death of Eleanora and George, she remained in the home and was cared for by their daughter, Ruth Bratcher Bessix and her husband, Linzy Bessix, Jr. When Ruth became ill and could no longer care for Ida, she was cared for by her sister, Wanda, with whom she lived until her death.
Ida attended school in the Capital School District.
Ida could be found at Spence’s Bazaar in Dover every Tuesday and Friday. She loved helping certain vendors and if you asked her where she worked, Ida would say at “Spence’s Sale". She worked with vendors there for over 30 years.
Ida loved her family dearly. She cherished every moment that she spent with her daughter, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Being raised together, she would always refer to Wanda and Ebony Bessix as her two sisters. She would call Ebony or Ebony would call her and talk two to three times a day, every day.
Ida was a lover of gospel music and some good old-fashioned preaching. She would listen to it on her cellphone or have Wanda turn it on in the You Tube app. Her favorite preachers were Bishop Patterson and Gino Jennings and a few others.
Ida was preceded in death by her mother, her foster parents, and her brother, Benny. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Vanell Dodd; her grandsons Leslie and Xavier Spady; granddaughter Alexis Spady; great-grandsons Jamel, her oldest and favorite, Nathan, Xavier, Jr. and great-granddaughter, Nyny; one niece, Alyce Waters-Wright and other foster siblings and friends.
