Henry Traute Obituary

Delaware Henry Traute, an Army veteran, tradesman and truck driver with distinguished histories in each, passed away at age 89 at his home on Friday, July 13. Born in Roselle Park, N.J., Henry was a true tradesman who worked in carpentry before becoming a truck driver at Continental Can Co. He retired with over 3 million accident- and violation-free miles. Drafted in 1951, Henry entered the Army Airborne, stationed in Fort Campbell, Ky. He completed jump school with significant military exercises in Virginia Beach and Alaska. In 1952, Henry married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Fisher, also of Roselle Park. After leaving the Army, he settled back in N.J., building a home in Fairfield, where he and Barbara raised four children: Fred, Margaret, Barbara Jean and Raymond.  Upon retirement, Henry and Barbara built a home in Milford and quickly became fixtures in the community. The senior center, American Legion, Historic Car Club, Food Bank, Meals on Wheels and morning coffee klatch were favored activities. Henry always maintained a large vegetable garden, the fruits of which he loved to share. He was predeceased by his wife, brother Herman and sister Anna Marie Dean and is survived by his sister, Katherine Traute, and brother Robert. Also mourning his loss are his children and their spouses, 10 grandchildren, four great grandchildren and many extended family and friends.  Services will be private.  Letters of condolences may be sent via www.pippinfuneralhome.com.
