Helen Lucille Gibson was born on July 24, 1935 to Alonzo and Sarah Elizabeth Cale in Dover, Delaware. She departed this life on September 25, 2020 at the age of 85.
Helen attended Booker T. Washington Elementary School and graduated from William Henry High School. She worked as a chef for many years at William Henry High School, as well as Woolworth Department Store, Treadway Towers and Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill. Helen met and married her husband Wilmer Gibson, Sr. and together they established several successful businesses that included a restaurant, a school bus and trucking company.
Helen was faithful in her service to the Lord. She served as an usher, choir member, missionary, member of the nurse’s unit, Deaconess, and Church Mother at Union Baptist Church, The Upper Room and Grace and Mercy Ministries. Helen obtained her Associates Degree in Evangelism from the United Fellowship Bible College. Helen was a loving, caring person that would do what she could to help someone in need. She loved to sew, cook and serve other people. Most of all, she loved to spend time with her family.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wilmer Gibson, Sr., daughters Deborah Cale and Delemia Daniels; siblings Eva Bostic, William Harris, Sr., Joseph Harris, Sr., Mildred Sadler and Francis Lewis; grandson Javan Cale and great grandson Curtis Wisher, III.
She leaves to cherish her memory sisters Alberta Scott of Camden, Anna Evans of Dover and Dorothy Cale of Virginia; daughters Doretha Cale of Magnolia and Florandia Adams (Irvan) of Dover; son Wilmer Gibson, Jr. of Ohio; stepson Donald Robbins of Magnolia; her grandchildren Tina Ashley (Donald), Tamara Hazzard (Harold), Deborah Wisher (Curtis), Shanail Carr (Norman), Dorray Cale, Charles Jackson, Jr., Calissa Armstrong, Wilmer Gibson, III; 18 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, October 8, 2020 at Greater Life Christian Church, 240 Head Start Lane, Dover, DE 19901 where there will be a viewing from 9:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M.
