Harvey Kersey Obituary

Harvey Clair Kersey, 81, of Camden passed away on March 24, 2024 at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford.  Born in Dover, DE, he was the son of the late I. Irene (Defibaugh) and Olin Merwin Kersey.

Clair recently became a member of Christ Memorial Baptist Church after accepting Jesus Christ as his Saviour. Mr. Kersey was a splicer for Verizon, retiring after 28 years of service.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving for four years. While he was at Verizon, Clair had his own tree service, Kersey Tree Service, and enjoyed being an Arborist.  He was an extremely talented carpenter, and immensely enjoyed woodworking.  He also enjoyed electrical, plumbing and construction work and was quite generous helping people and would not charge for his services.  Harvey was also an expert marksman and was a member of the NRA. Mr. Kersey also enjoyed giving hugs and was known to some as “Harvey the Hugger”.

Mr. Kersey is survived by his wife of 40 years, Carolyn J. (Soyster) Kersey; three children:  Toni E. Stalnaker and her husband Carl, James D. Gormley and his wife Judy of Felton and Pamela E. Keeney and her husband Nathan of Felton; nine grandchildren: Sean, Randi, David, Ken, Jess, Jarrod, Charlie, Jorden and Caranna; and six great grandchildren.  In addition to his parents, Clair was preceded in death by his daughter, Juliea Rittenhouse and by his sister Sandra Brown.
