Guinevere Odette Moorer (Jones) “Odette”, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, passed away November 10, 2025. Guinevere was born on December 13, 1951 to the parents of Gwendolyn Elizabeth McBride Jones Thomas and Eldridge H. Jones.
Gwen married the love of her life, Pastor Wilbur L. Moorer, on June 28, 1979.
Gwen devoted her life to God at a young age and continued to serve God throughout her life. She began her service to God at Union United Methodist Church and making her final church Healing Hands as the First Lady.
Gwen graduated from St. Michaels High School class of 1969 and continued her education in Baltimore at Strayer Business College where she received her Associate Degree. Gwen was gainfully employed over many years with various jobs which included: Crab Claw, Black and Decker, Airpax, The Unemployment Office, Private Nanny, Playtex, S. Lowan Pitts Daycare at Whatcoat United Methodist Church, and finally retiring after being the founder and owner of Moorer’s ABC Daycare.
In her spare time, Gwen had a love for good movies, her favorites being “For the Love of Ruth” and “Loving Leah “. In addition to movies, her favorite TV shows were HGTV, HSN, and QVC. Some of her hobbies included early morning garage sales and never passing up an unexpected yard sale. Being a bargain shopper at stores and even pawnshops. While being a lover of seafood, she was also known for making her famous sweet potato pies, crab cakes, and chitterlings “chittlins.”
In addition to a life of hard work, Gwen will be known for her steadfast devotion to her faith in God, and love of her family.
Gwen leaves behind her husband of 46 years, Pastor Wilbur L. Moorer, where the Word of God and love was the foundation of her life. She is also survived by her children Trina L. Jones-Pitts Atlanta, GA; Carlos M. Jones Dover, DE; Brandy M. Moorer Dover, DE; and bonus son William Ledell Chapman Dover, DE; along with her grandchildren who brought her immense joy: Sgt. Malik A. Jones, Jourdyn J. Pitts, and Jayla M. Pitts (Trina); Jireh Moorer, Gihon Moorer, Seven Moorer, Pvt. Zin Moorer, and Wisdom Moorer (Brandy); Bonus granddaughter Ledaya Walker and (Chris). Her legacy continues through her beloved great-grandchildren: Adore “Dore Dore” B. Burton (Jourdyn); Shyne Moorer, Heavyn Moorer (Jireh); Cru Moorer (Gihon); Qualeak “Butts” Bumbrey Jr. (Seven). Bonus great grandchildren: Lailah Walker, Jrue Walker (Ledaya).
In addition to her father and beloved mother, she is preceded in death by her son-in-law John W. Pitts Jr. Gwen is survived by her brother Deacon George Thomas (Jonell), Las Cruces, NM; niece and nephew Jovanna K. Thomas, George A.M. Thomas, III (Ayla Thomas great niece); cousins: Robert and Linda Collier, Bernice and George Jackson; and many extended family and friends.
Gwen also held a special place in her heart for Frenchie Hampton, whom she lovingingly embraced as a sister.
A funeral service will 1:00 P.M. Saturday, December 6, 2025 at Canaan Full Gospel Christian Church, 283 School Street, Houston, DE 19954 where there will be a viewing from 11:30 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. Saturday. A graveside service will be 12:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 10, 2025 at Springhill Memory Gardens, 27260 Ocean Gateway, Hebron, MD 21830.
