Gregory George Papen, 59, went home to be with the Lord on November 8, 2021. He lived in Delaware all his life, graduating from Caesar Rodney High School. He enlisted in the Army in 1983, serving as a Paratrooper and Blackhawk Helicopter crew chief during his active duty years. He later returned to fulfil his destined role in the family farming business at Papen Farms, while still in the Army Reserves until 1990. Greg was an avid hunter, Founder/President of the 21st Hunt Club, and a hunting guide for his many friends and family. He was affectionately known as “Pape”, Dad or Daddy, enjoyed watching the outdoor channel, old westerns, and military shows. The devotion and love he extended to his many, many friends and family will be remembered the most by all.
Greg is survived by his parents Richard and June Papen; sisters, Carol Traegler (Jim), Kathy Lane (Gary); Shannon Papen (the mother of his children); son, Zackary Papen, daughter, Ashley Papen; maternal grandmother, Evelyn Voshell, and numerous nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Roy J. Voshell; paternal grandparents, George and Mary Papen; and brother, Kenneth Papen.
A memorial service will be 4:00 p.m. Sunday, December 5, 2021 at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where a gathering will be from 2-4 pm. Burial services to be held later at Arlington National Cemetery. The family requests donations in Greg’s memory be made to Home of The Brave, 6632 Sharps Rd, Milford, DE 19963.
