Gloria Ramstedt Obituary

Gloria Shaw Ramstedt, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend departed this world peacefully on November 1, 2024, in Dover, Delaware, comforted by family. She was 86 years old.

Born on March 8, 1938, to George Fredrick and Emma Oliphant Shaw, Gloria grew up in Greensboro, NC and lived in Georgia, Florida, North and South Carolina, and retired in Delaware in 2011. She married Walt Ramstedt, in October of 2020. Together, they traveled, spent time with family, and built a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. Their marriage was marked by unwavering support for each other and an unbreakable bond that served as an example of love to everyone who knew them.

Gloria's life was one of quiet strength and grace. She raised three children, instilling in them the values of kindness, resilience, independence, and integrity. As a grandmother, Gloria enjoyed teaching her grandchildren about the simple joys of life. They brought her immense pride, and each one held a unique place in her heart.

Gloria was known for her gentle spirit, her love of books, crafts, sewing, and her unmatched talent with plants, especially orchids. She was an active member of Wyoming United Methodist Church where she previously served as a lay leader, taught children’s Sunday school and sang in the choir. She was also a member of the Dover Lion's Club.

Her departure leaves wonderful memories in the hearts of those she leaves behind: her loving husband Walt; her children Kimberlea (Alberto), Karen, Nicole, and Michael (Maureen); her adored grandchildren Jenni, Maryelisabeth, Hope, Ryan, Mark, and Luke; her brother Fred (Carol); niece Ashley (Stephan) and nephew Christopher (Mala); great nieces Ines and Asha; great nephews Sven, Sebastien, and Eli; and countless friends.

Gloria’s legacy is one of love and generosity – a life spent lifting others up, listening without judgment, and giving without expectation. Though Gloria may be gone from this world, we will carry her memory in our hearts forever, grateful for the love she shared so selflessly.

A celebration of Gloria’s life will be held on Saturday, November 23rd at 11:00 am at Wyoming United Methodist Church (216 Wyoming Mill Rd, Dover, Delaware 19904). In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Delaware Hospice (https://delawarehospice.org/) or Wyoming United Methodist Church (https://www.wyumc.org/), both organizations provided her with great comfort in her final days.
