Gertrude Virginia Corkell, lovingly known as “Gerty,” passed away peacefully on March 31, 2025, at the age of 83.
Born on August 21,1941 in Easton, Maryland to Eliza Schrock and dad, Earl Wilson. Gerty lived a life rooted in faith, love, and warmth. A devoted member of Faith Community Church, Gerty was an avid churchgoer whose dedication to her faith was the guiding light of her life. Her unwavering spiritual strength and generosity touched countless lives, and she never hesitated to lend a hand—or a hug—to anyone in need. Her hugs, in fact, were legendary: warm, comforting, and always just what you needed. Gerty had a special love for animals and was known for the tender care she gave to her furry companions over the years. Her nurturing heart extended to every living thing around her.
She is survived by her beloved daughter Catherine Rosetta and partner David Hamilton; her cherished grandchildren: Sherry Luff, Jamie and her husband Tom Allen, Wendy Rosetta, Stevie Longfellow, Tyler and his wife Macy Hastings; and her treasured great-grandchildren: James Stubbs IV, Brendon Stubbs, Austin Mounts, Karlie Mounts, Ivyanna Longfellow, Annabella Hastings, and Liam Hastings.
Gertrude is preceded in death by her beloved daughter Nancy Rosetta and her grandson Michael Rosetta, who both held special places in her heart. She also leaves behind a wealth of other family and friends who will carry her memory with love and gratitude.
Gerty’s legacy is one of faith, family, kindness, and the kind of love that leaves an imprint on your soul. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
