Gerald Freeman Obituary

Diane Gerald “Lumpy” Freeman, was born in Dover, DE on November 24, 1952 to Ernest Sudler and Hazel Johnson.  She transitioned on September 16, 2020 at home surrounded by her loving family.

Diane gave her life to Christ at a young age and was not ashamed to share her faith with others that she encountered.  Diane was a member of First Pilgrim Baptist Church in Camden, DE under the leadership of Bishop Miles.  Throughout the years, she served in many different ministries in the church and community.  Serving on the usher board, singing in the choir, and helping with community activities brought her great joy.  She would often quote John: 15 and stand on the fact that she was hooked to the vine.

Diane was educated at Booker T. Washington Elementary, William Henry High School and Dover High School.  Later, she earned her GED from James Grove Adult Education Center.  After many years of working at General Foods (Kraft) she retired and went on to work for DART Transportation until her illness.

During her free time, she gathered with her family and friends to bowl and play cards.  She loved reading a good love novel and hosting family cookouts.  Gifted in bringing the family together was the highlight of her life.  She extended her love and kindness towards others who were in need.

Diane was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Freeman; her parents Ernest Sudler and Hazel Johnson; four brothers: James Johnson, Reginald Johnson, Ernest Sudler and Darryl Sudler; three sisters: Dorothy Boyer, Rita Sudler and Tina Mosley.

Diane leaves to mourn her passing two daughters, Joy A. Harris and Cheryl D. Bryant (Stephen); three grandchildren: La’Toia Sudler, Montel Sudler (Jatia) and Amber Bryant; five great grandchildren: Jayda, Jayden, Jaylen, Naomi and Izreal Sudler; two sisters, Beulah Yarborough (Kenneth) and Judy Blue; a brother, Donald Hughes; two sister-in-laws Brenda Hughes and Othelia Johnson; a special cousin Betye Freeman of Alexandria, VA; three loving friends: Audrey Hudson, Getha Cross and Alyce Wright; and a host of nephews, nieces, family and friends.
