George Mifflin Fisher IV

George Mifflin Fisher IV died unexpectedly on Sunday, January 17, 2021.  He was 77 years old.  George was a lifelong Delawarean.  He was predeceased by his parents Ruth Trumbauer and George M. Fisher III.  

He spent his early years in Dover and had many life long friends.  George attended Washington & Lee College in Virginia where he received his undergraduate law degrees.

He and his wife Sarah (Peggy) moved to Texas after law school where George spent 3 years in Army Intelligence during the Vietnam War.  They returned to Wilmington where George worked for Delaware Trust where he was in Wealth Management, ending his career as Sr. Vice President.

George retired early and spent many years traveling the world.  At home he became involved with the University of Delaware’s football and basketball teams.  He spent many fall Saturdays at tailgate parties with his friends.  He also was involved in the UD Osher Lifelong Learning Program in Dover, where he met his present wife Peggy Abbott.

He is survived by his wife Peggy, a sister Libby a niece, 3 nephews, extended family and friends.

During his life George made many friends and will be missed.  A celebration of George’s life will by planned for a later date when the Covid worry is under control
