In Loving Memory of George Faulkner
July 22, 1949 – June 4, 2025
George Faulkner (Sonny), 75, of Marydel, Delaware, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2025. Born in Smyrna on July 22, 1949, to the late George and Iris Faulkner, George was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. His warm spirit and generous heart touched all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, his cherished daughter Kimmie Leeann, and his dear sister Patsy.
George is survived by his loving wife, Virginia Faulkner; daughters Dawn Hitchner and Wanda Sperring (Bob); and stepchildren Harry Otto (Debbie), Mechelle Sawyer (Edd), and Hank Otto (Christina). He was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren — Carissa, Mathew, Ashli, Brandon, Jade, Sam, Zackery, and Tyler — and a proud great-grandfather to seven great-grandchildren: Annabeth, Zander, Cameron, Emmersyn, Mavis, Ronan, and Bjorn.
George is also survived by his loving and encouraging Uncle James and Aunt Christine Faulkner of Smyrna. Their many thoughtful visits — often bringing George his favorite lima beans — meant the world to him. He shared a special bond with their daughter, Debbie Berry (Mike) of Ohio, who always made time to visit when in town. George cherished their conversations about faith and their shared memories of growing up in Duck Creek.
He is also survived by his sister Jeannie Newton (Logan) of Miami, Florida, whose frequent calls offered him love, support, and encouragement; and his brother Fredrick Faulkner (Sandy) of Townsend, Delaware.
George deeply loved his family, his faith, and life’s simple joys. He found peace in fishing, cheered passionately for the Miami Dolphins, and could always be counted on to lend a hand or fix whatever was broken. A man of many talents and unwavering loyalty, George’s legacy is one of strength, kindness, and devotion.
He will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know him.
A family graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at 11:00 AM, followed by a memorial luncheon at the Marydel Fire House. All who knew and loved George are welcome to attend and celebrate his life.
Lieu of flowers donations to the Marydel Fire Company in George’s name.
