George Eugene "Gene" Donovan

George Eugene “Gene” Donovan of Chocowinity, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at ECU Heart 

Center in Greenville, North Carolina on August 29, 2023. Born and raised in Wilmington, Delaware on August 11, 1943, he was the son of Charles Ross Donovan, Sr. and Hazel Mae Taylor Donovan. 

Gene graduated from Wilmington High School in 1961 and Goldey Beacom in 1963. He worked for NCR Corporation for 37 years in Delaware, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. He was proud to serve in the Delaware National Guard. Gene was very involved in the Lions Club both in Camden, Delaware and Shrewsbury, Pennsylvania where he served in many roles. He enjoyed the time he spent as a member of the Caesar Rodney Band Parents Association, riding his Goldwing on Wednesdays with the Geezers motorcycle group in Pennsylvania, the Antique Car Club NC, restoring his 1946 Chevy truck, and woodworking, especially making cradles for his grandchildren.

Gene is survived by his wife of 56 years Dolores “Dee” Shivone Donovan, daughter Sharon Dunne of Virginia Beach, Virginia, son Greg Donovan of Sarasota, Florida and 5 grandchildren: Annalee Dunne, Jack Dunne, Robert Stewart, William Donovan and Lily Donovan, his brother Charles "Ross" Donovan, Jr.,  and his faithful four-legged companion Bandit.

 He was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Alexandra Grace Donovan.

Services will be held 12 noon, Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming, Wyoming, DE where friends may call one hour earlier. Interment to follow at Barratt’s Chapel Cemetery, Frederica, DE. 

Memorials may be made to Alzheimers.org or Nemours.org (Orthopedic group) in memory of Gene and his granddaughter Alexandra Grace Donovan, respectively.
