Gary Lane Obituary

Gary Wayne Lane, age 66, was born on August 1, 1957 in Baltimore, MD.  He passed away peacefully in his home with his loving wife by his side on January 23, 2024 after a long battle with a rare cancer.  Gary graduated from Sparrows Point High School in Edgemere, Maryland where he played sports like football, baseball and enjoyed the long lasting friendships of many of his classmates and neighbors.

Gary was an avid woodworker, photographer, birdwatcher, kayaker, fisherman, and overall jack of all trades.  He loved to share his creations with family and friends so that they all could get enjoyment from them as much as he did.  He had a wonderful sense of humor, always coming up with a pun for every occasion.

Gary’s faith in Jesus Christ gave him a passion for blessing other people which in turn blessed him.  Throughout his lifetime, he made it his life’s passion to spread God’s word and ensure that he kept that faith throughout his battle for 16 years with cancer.  This gave him an opportunity to witness to others the power of God and his fervent wish was for all of his family and friends to accept Jesus Christ as their lord and savior and someday we will all meet again in heaven.

He is survived by his loving wife Kathy Papen Lane; sons - Chad (Stacy) Lane and Jeremy (Nicole) Lane;  daughters - Stephanie (Dan) Hayward and Christina (Joshua) Kline;  step-daughters  - Tiffany (Tim) Lancaster and Stefanie (Robby) Lancaster.  He also leaves behind 13 grandchildren - Trent, Rhett, and Elly Lancaster; Mason and Kaylee Lane;  Annette and Owen Lane;  Charlotte, Sebastian and Lila Hayward; Gabriel, Levi, and Mackenzie Kline.

He is also survived by his beloved mother-in-law June Papen, sister-in-law Carol Traegler, and various nieces & nephews and brothers & sisters.

Gary’s wish was to be cremated.  So the family will not be having a public service.  However, the family would like to state that if anyone would like to make a donation in memory of Gary Lane, please send those donations to either Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma Research Foundation online at or to Mount Holly Methodist Church at 804 Mount Holly Road, Fairdale, Kentucky 40118.
