Evelyn Helen Tobler, 92, of Dover, passed away Monday, June 27, 2022. She was born March 19, 1930, in Massey, MD., daughter of the late Elwood D, Sr. and Evelyn Ringgold Starkey. Helen graduated from Galena High School in Galena, MD., in 1947. Helen met her husband, John W. Tobler (JW), in Betterton, MD and they were married in 1948. Helen retired from Wesley College in 1991 after 32 years.
Following retirement, Helen and JW enjoyed traveling and spending time at their place in Rock Hall, MD, fishing and crabbing. They loved spending time with family and friends, eating crabs and watching the Chesapeake Bay sunsets. When they weren’t in Rock Hall, Helen & JW enjoyed dancing, road trips, and cruises with their close friends. Helen also developed a passion for painting and enjoyed creating pieces inspired by nature.
In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, John W. Tobler; her sister, Betty Ruth (Kenton); her brother, Elwood D. Starkey, Jr.; and her granddaughter, Amy Marker.
She is survived by her son, John W. Tobler Jr. of Bridgeville; daughter, Linda Sue Pepper (Frank) of Dover; grandchildren, Jaime Tobler Riggin (Louis), Holly Marker, Douglas John Marker Jr. (Jessica); and great-grandchildren, James Wooleyhand Jr., Lia Riggin, Sam Riggin, Willow Massie, Devin Bauer, and Carter Bauer.
A graveside service will be held at Lakeside Cemetery, 558 N State Street, Dover, DE 19901, on Friday, July 1 at 11:00 a.m.
