Evelyn Marie Denson, lovingly known as “Baby Girl” and “Sugar Mama,” was born on December 10, 1938, in Jacksonville, Florida, to Evelyn Williams and Grady McCalvin. She was the cherished granddaughter of Viola Williams and Herbert Tolson, and the beloved great-granddaughter of Rachel Boynton and Charlie Boynton She received her early education in Jacksonville, FL, before moving to Hastings, FL, where she graduated from Hastings High School.
Evelyn was preceded in eternal rest by her husband, Rocellar Denson, with whom she shared 57 years of marriage, and by her son, Emmanuel Denson. Those who will forever cherish her memory include her loving and loyal son, Bernard McCalvin Denson (Hastings, FL); her grandchildren: Shalendore Denson (San Antonio, TX), Bershea (Quincy) White (San Antonio, TX), and Kenya Thompson (Tennessee); and her great-grandchildren: Tremaine Tolbert, Ahmyyah Tolbert, Kadence Fergerson, Joshua Mormon, Kenyatta Jackson, and Kayla Jackson. Each one brought her joy, and she loved them deeply.
Evelyn was known throughout the community as one of the best bakers in the area. Her cakes, pies, and homemade treats were more than recipes — they were expressions of love, comfort, and tradition. Her kitchen was a place where warmth was felt, stories were shared, and everyone left with a full heart. She is remembered with love by her siblings: Barber Jefferson, Betty Jean Myers, Mayetta Wesley, Michael Myers, Fletcher Miles, Willie Pearl Williams, TD, and Lucille.
Evelyn dedicated her professional life to home health care, where she was formally trained and credentialed. She served with patience, respect, and a genuine concern for the well-being of others. Her kindness touched many families and left a lasting impression. A woman of strong faith, Evelyn served faithfully as a missionary, singer, praise and worship leader, and counselor. She loved the Lord, loved her church, and loved helping people. Her warm spirit, encouraging words, and steady presence blessed everyone who crossed her path.
