Dover, DE – Eugene Walter Knapp, Jr. passed away unexpectedly September 9, 2022 at Bayhealth Hospital.  Gene was born April 11, 1937 in Albion, PA to Eugene Walter and Thelma Ann Knapp.  Gene is preceded in death by wife Joan and three brothers, Jack, Larry and Garry and step-brother Mike.

Gene joined the United States Air Force in February 1956 where he served as an AeroVac Medic for 20 years with distinguished service during the Vietnam Conflict. Gene also worked at Delaware Corrections, partnered with Yoder and Knapp Construction and Civil Service at Dover Air Force Base at the Sign Shop and Base Hospital Facilities Management.

Gene is survived by his wife Cecilia of 27 years; son Shaun and his wife JoAnn; his sister Denese and her husband Ish; Sisters-in-law Jean, Anne and Suzanne and husband, Otto; Step sisters Wanda DiFusco and Florence Randall; Step brother Brent McCabe and wife Karen and Step Sister-in-law Sally; Step children: John and wife Lori, Kevin and wife Patti, Karen and husband Mike; his seven grandchildren:  Bryan, Kari, Jason, Katelyn, John, Joe, Molly, Abby and Collin; and extended family and friends.

Funeral mass is being held on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church located at 631 S. State Street, Dover, Delaware 19901 where friends may call one hour prior.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Vietnam Veterans of America.
