Eugene Foster Harris, known as (Jimmy/ Mouse) was born on November 13, 1937 in Nassau DE. He was the son of the late George Thomas Harris Sr. and Naomi Thomas Harris. Eugene was 88 years old. He was from Milford Delaware/ Philadelphia PA and passed away peacefully on November 25, 2025.
He was preceded in death by his wife Nancy Clark Harris; his sons Eugene Harris and Kenneth Harris; his sister Minnie H. Hill; and his brother Clarence F. Harris.
Jimmy attended Benjamin Banneker Elementary School and William Henry Comprehensive High School. He also was a part of the Milford 11. In May of 1954, the Supreme Court ruled 9-0 that segregation in public schools was unconstitutional. That August, the Milford Delaware School Board voted to integrate Milford High School. This video documents the history of what happened that fall when the school admitted 11 Black students, known as the Milford Eleven. Jimmy was a part of the 11 students who attend Milford High in 1954.
Jimmy lived a life filled with kindness and was loved by his family. Throughout his life, Jimmy was a certified carpenter. He was also a member of the National Guard of Delaware. He would attend Penn Relays with his uncles and brothers each year.
He leaves to mourn his passing two daughters Nadine Harris and Kim Harris Thomas (Jeffery); three granddaughters: Regina Miller (Ron), Nicole Harris and Natsha Johnson; one grandson Richard Clark; five great-grandchildren; 3 brothers: George Thomas Harris Jr (Mary), Austin W.M. Harris (Diane), Phillip L. Harris (Beatrice); and 4 sisters: Kathryn E. Harris (Libby), Janice M. Daniels (Jimmie), Gwendolyn C. Harris, and Deborah P. White (David). Jimmy has a host nieces and nephews as well as cousin and a host of great nieces and nephews. Jimmy’s caretaker Paul Mintz was a tremendous help to his family. Also survived by his best friend and associate Gordon Camp.
A funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 20, 2025 at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming, DE 19934 where there will be a viewing from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. Saturday. Burial will follow in John Wesley U. M. Church Cemetery, Milford.
