Ernest (Ernie) Edward Henry Jr., 68, of Dover, DE transitioned this life peacefully on January 16th, 2024. Ernie was born on June 11, 1955, in Hackensack, NJ to the late Ernest Edward Henry Sr. and Elzeal (Coleman) Henry and was the oldest of five children.

     He spent his childhood growing up on Prospect Avenue in Hackensack, NJ surrounded by his siblings, family and friends and Atlantic City, NJ where he lived with a relative for a brief time. During high school, Ernie played baseball at Hackensack High School and graduated in 1973. After high school, Ernie joined the United States Air Force where he obtained an Associate Degree in Business and traveled to several parts of the world such as Korea, Spain, Florida, Michigan, and Delaware.

     After 20 years of service, Ernie retired in 1994 from Dover Air Force Base in Dover, DE, as a SSgt working in freight transportation. Following retirement, he worked for a host of businesses throughout his lifetime. From 1998 until the early 2000’s he worked for Hanover foods as an overnight product stocker, followed by his dream job as a truck driver for Bradway Trucking Company and lastly, Tilcon Delaware Inc. asphalt and pavement company as a dump truck driver.

     Aside from his work life, Ernie was married twice and had five lovely children. He enjoyed      listening to music, singing, dancing, fishing, crosswords, solitaire, taking road trips, going to the local sale (Spences Bazaar), having BBQ’s, watching sports, going to jazz festivals, washing and waxing Juanita (his car), spending time with family and friends and most importantly making people laugh. Although, he did not have a particular church home, Ernie over the years attended church and one of his favorite scriptures was Matthew 20:16 NIV: “So, the last will be first, and the first will be last.”

     Ernie is preceded in death by his mother Elzeal Henry, Father Ernest Edward Henry Sr., brothers Glenn Henry and Gerald (Jerry) Henry, sister Michele Henry, Aunt Janet Henry, granddaughter Andromeda Brown and ex-wife Dr. Shirley Ann Isabell. 

     He is survived by his children Darian (Deedee) Isler-Walford (Fabian) of Charlotte, NC, Tia Gwathney (Terrance) of Surprise, AZ, Ernest (Lil Ernie) Edward Henry III (Aileen) of Clovis, New Mexico, Twanna McCracken (Willie) of Homestead, FL, Tamara Isabell of Dover, DE, Ahjahfri Watson of Dover, DE, Dominic Parnell of Dover, DE, brother Michael Henry of Philadelphia, PA, nephews Brandon, Christian Henry, Michael (Lil Mike) Henry Jr., Jevon Chambers, Adrian Williams, Maurice Hawkins, niece Aysia Gray, great niece Jaiyah Gray, 4 great nephews, 12 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, close cousins and close friends that he loved dearly.

     A funeral service will be 10:00 A.M. Wednesday January 31, 2024 at Pippin Funeral Home, 119W Camden Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming, DE  19934 where there will be a viewing from9:00 A.M. until 10:00 A.M. Wednesday.  Burial will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.  Online condolences may be made via www.pippinfuneralhome.com.
