Elwood Lord Obituary

     Elwood Wilson Lord, 76, of Dover, DE, passed away on May 30, 2026 at the Delaware Veterans Home in Milford, DE after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. 
     Born on 12/18/1949 in Lewes, DE, He was the child of Roland Hughes Sr. and Grace Beebe Hughes. Elwood graduated from Harrington High School and went on to serve 30 years as a Sargent Major in the US Army and the National Guard, and finally retired from the State of DE after serving 30 years in the Department of Corrections and a Maintenance Foreman.
     He will be deeply remembered for his honesty and constantly willingness to help others. Elwood had a passion for hunting and fishing and spent 55 wonderful years married to Beverly Lord.
     He is survived by Beverly and their son Justin Lord and his daughter Victoria Wetherbee with her husband Jeremy Wetherbee and their two children Graham and Emmett. He is also survived by his brothers, George Hughes, Roland Hughes Jr., Rubin Hughes, Charles Hughes, and Dennis (Mikey) Hughes, and his sister Mary Ann Branham. He is also survived by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law David and Charlene Warner. 
     He was predeceased by his father and mother Roland Hughes Sr. and Grace Hughes, and his brothers Ronald Hughes, David Hughes, and Kenneth Hughes, and his sisters Patricia Ann Roberts and Joanne Layton. He is predeceased by his adoptive parents Robert and Sally Lord. 
      A celebration of life will be 4:00 p.m. Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave, Wyoming, DE 19934. Friends and family are welcome to attend and celebrate Elwood’s life beginning at 3:00 p.m.
     In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Elwood’s memory to Delaware Veterans Home in Milford, DE.
