Eleanor Mary Barnes was born in 1934 in Pittsfield Massachusetts and passed away on January 20, 2023 in Lewes, Delaware of natural causes.
Eleanor grew up in her family’s home with her parents and two brothers, Edward, and Lewis. She graduated from Pittsfield high school in June 1953.
After graduation Eleanor’s brother brought home a friend, from the Air Force, Edmond Barnes and he caught her eye. It seemed it was love at first sight and after Edmond won her heart, she was truly devoted to him. The two were married August of 1953. They had their first child, John in 1954, followed by Theresa in 1957, and Gregory in 1968. They remained married for 59 years.
This was an Airforce family and traveled from 1955 to Ajo Arizona, then to Hampton Virginia, Oahu Hawaii and then finally to Dover, Delaware in 1964 where Eleanor settled with Edmond and their children.
Eleanor was a long-time employee of the Playtex corporation, (23 years) in the Dover Delaware location. She had many friends from Playtex and retired in 1992.
Eleanor was an avid reader and a great support to her friends, always ready to lend an ear. She was quite feisty despite being 4’9”! She was an active member of the Red Hatters Society, and supported Edmond as a member of the Historical Vintage Car Club of Delaware.
During the past nine years her best friend and companion was Sandy a golden labrador she pretended to be indifferent to, but we all knew better!
Eleanor is survived by her children and their spouses; John and Kathy Barnes, Theresa Barnes, and Gregory and Kirsten Barnes. She has been royally blessed with grandchildren. Zachary and Jessica Barnes, Gregory and Amber Barnes, Laura Mooney, Shayne and Paige Mooney. To her delight she has four great grandchildren; Colton, Madalynn, Graham Barnes, and Liam Mooney.
Eleanor was predeceased by her late husband Edmond Barnes, and her brothers Edmond and Lewis Creamer She will be missed by her devoted family and friends. By the grace of our Lord, she is resting in peace.
We thank all of her friends and family that have been loving and faithful to her throughout her lifetime.
