Duane C. "Chet" Wilt, 86, born in Gettysburg, PA passed away peacefully on January 17, 2019 at the Delaware Veterans Home.
Chet was a 1954 graduate of Lehigh University. He served as a First Lieutenant in the Army Corps of Engineers. The majority of his career was focused on the steel industry.
Chet and Mary were married for 63 years. Through the years they enjoyed their church family. Chet was a skilled repair person, could build most anything, had a passion for organization/neatness, and through photography, documented the growth and activities of the family.
Prior to his illness he enjoyed riding his bike, competitive shooting, and was an active volunteer for the American Red Cross culminating in his receiving the 2004 Governor's Outstanding Volunteer Award in the state of Delaware
He is survived by his wife, Mary Wilt, his daughter Phyllis Hamilton and her husband Wayne of Melbourne, FL, daughter Mary Esther Wilt of Wyoming, DE, son Kenneth Wilt and his wife Suzanne of Macungie, PA, son Steven Wilt and his wife Jennifer of Louisville, KY, and four grandchildren, Kyle (fiancé Erin), Brandon (wife Rachel), Evan and Emily.
A memorial service will be held at 11am Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019 at Wyoming United Methodist Church, 216 Wyoming Mill Road, Dover, DE, where a visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in Chet's name to the Wyoming United Methodist Church, 216 Wyoming Mill Rd., Dover, DE 19904 or to the Delaware Veterans Home, 100 Delaware Veteran’s Blvd., Milford, DE 19963.
