Douglas N. McCray, Sr., 68, of Georgetown, passed away on March 25, 2021.
He was born March 9, 1953 to the late Mary Elizabeth (Libby) Johnson in Millsboro, DE. He was preceded in death by his sister Martha T. McCray.
Douglas attended Caesar Rodney High School, where he met his wife Lydia. The two were married in 1971 and shared 50 glorious years together. Douglas worked for JB Hunt as a truck driver and retired from the company in 2020. He was a mentor/father figure to many of his colleagues and was affectionately referred to as “Pop”. Douglas deeply enjoyed being surrounded by his family, he especially loved taking his children and grandchildren fishing.
During the warmer months, Douglas grew a massive garden and cared for it with great detail. As a true outdoorsman and jack of all trades, he always found something to keep him busy. When it was time to unwind, Douglas enjoyed playing the penny machines at the casino and shopping at Harbor Freight, where he collected every tool the store sold. Also on his free time, he loved riding his tractor, using his chainsaws, and watching movies from his extensive DVD collection.
Douglas is survived by his wife Lydia McCray of Georgetown, DE; 3 children: Hope McCray of Felton, DE, Douglas N. McCray, Jr. of Laurel, DE and Thelisa Short (Dana) of Harrington, DE; 5 grandchildren: Antonio McCray, Sr., Adaisia Hazzard, Kadeem McCray, Jasmine Trotmon, and Douglas N. McCray, III; 9 great grandchildren; 5 sisters-in-law; 1 brother in law, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; and special friends Paul and Kathy Reiger.
