Dorothy "Dotti" Wilkie Obituary

Our beloved Dorothy (Dotti) Marie Kluge Wilkie, with her steadfast belief in Jesus, entered into eternal life on January 20, 2025 at age 89.  She was just weeks shy of her 90th birthday.

Dotti was born to Jennie Marie and William Jacob Kluge on March 9, 1935 in Jersey City, NJ. As a child, Dotti enjoyed the outdoors and being with animals. She loved playing in the Hackensack High School band and being their Drum Majorette.

Dotti and Bob (Robert N. Wilkie) were high school sweethearts who married on May 11, 1957. They enjoyed 64 years of marriage and shared four beautiful daughters: Darlene, Allison, Pamela and Elizabeth. Family was the center of Dotti and Bob’s life together.

In addition to being a dedicated and loving mother, Dotti tended her fantastic gardens, creating spots of beauty wherever she lived.  She was a leader in the Girl Scouts, her church, and various community service groups. Notably, she made history as the first female Church Council President at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Dover, Delaware, serving two terms in this role.

She also lovingly nurtured many pets through the years.

Job opportunities took Dotti and her family to live in various states, including New Jersey, Massachusetts, Delaware and Pennsylvania.  They lived in Elverson, Pennsylvania for over 40 years before moving to Berlin, Maryland.

Dotti’s business acumen led her to earn her real estate license and become a corporate property manager. She was recognized in Who’s Who in American Women and served as President of the Rotary Club in Pennsylvania.

She and Bob loved to travel, especially enjoying their 50th Anniversary trip to Israel.

Throughout her entire life, Dotti held an unwavering faith in God, which she shared with those around her. She lived a life of giving to others especially those who were in significant need, such as migrant workers and veterans.

Now that Dotti has passed into the arms of our Lord, we are reminded that her Earthly departure is only the beginning of an eternal and magnificent journey for her.  She joins her beloved daughter, Darlene, and best friend and husband, Bob, as well as her parents and many other family members in Heaven.

Dotti is survived by her loving family, including her daughters and their husbands: Allison and Blair Snyder, Pamela and Eric Bienert, and Elizabeth and Michael Cable. She is lovingly remembered as “Mom Mom” by her six grandchildren: Michael B. Snyder Jr. (Gillian), Jessica Briles (Ben), Andrew Snyder (Kelsey), Connor Snyder, Robert Kohl and Hunter Kohl.  She was also blessed with six great-grandchildren: William, Alexis, Samuel, Jocelyn, Emma, and Ben, all of whom brought immense joy to her life.  Ruthie Johnson (Tom) mourns the loss of her sister, Dotti.

Visitation will be held from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, 425 N. DuPont Highway Dover, Delaware 19901 with a Celebration of Life to follow at 11:30 AM. Interment will take place at Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.
