Doris Mae Donovan peacefully passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on August 22, 1940, in Wilmington, Delaware, the beloved daughter of the late Earl F. and Mary Elwood. Alongside her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her cherished husband, Robert L. Donovan, and her siblings, brothers Earl and Richard, and twin sisters Elaine and Eloise. She graduated from Conrad High School in 1958, leaving an indelible mark on everyone who knew her.
Doris was a dedicated athlete throughout her youth, participating in various sports during her school years. Her love for athletics continued into adulthood as she became an active member of the Delaware Senior Olympic Softball Team. Doris shared a wonderful 52-year marriage with her late husband, Robert, who lovingly guided her out of her Newark neighborhood comfort zone in 1982 to the peace and serenity of rural Townsend at the time.
In 1994, their last great adventure began with the purchase of a stunning 100-acre parcel of land in Harrington. Robert took on the impressive task of building a log home himself. Together, they experienced an idyllic life filled with the joys of nature, raising cattle and horses, riding ATVs, and tending to their expansive property. Doris shared a special bond with her dogs, especially her beloved Maggie, who brought her immense joy. To stay active and engaged, Doris dedicated many years to serving as a school bus driver for the Lake Forest School District.
Above all, Doris' unwavering love for her family was paramount. In the early 1970s, Robert and Doris purchased a secluded lakefront cabin in the northern woods of Maine. This cherished retreat became a place where the family enjoyed fishing, boating, campfires, and the enchanting calls of loons while watching eagles soar above. The cabin remains a treasured family sanctuary, continuing to hold a special place in the hearts of all who visit.
Doris is survived by her four children: daughter Kathleen and her husband Dominic, along with her son Christopher; son Robert E. and his wife Karen, and their children Stephanie and RJ and his wife Alesha, as well as grandchildren Cody, Liam, Dillon, Aubrey, Odin, and Emory Mae; daughter Linda and her children Mary, Anna and her husband Tommy, and Steven, as well as grandchildren Roman and Mila; son Kenneth and his son Jacob. She is also survived by her twin sister, Delores Neveras of North Carolina.
Doris' life was a testament to love, strength, and devotion. Her legacy will live on in the memories and hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. Letters of condolence can be sent via www.pippinfuneralhome.com.
May she rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love she so generously gave throughout her life.
