Donna Kay Farr Sandstrom, went peacefully to the arms of Jesus, Sunday, the 30th of November, 2025. Known as Kay, born the 27th of December, 1936 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the daughter of Clara Murphy and Virgil Farr. She was reared along with her twin brothers Rex and Ray. At a young age, the family moved to California, where she spent formative years in various cities and towns throughout the State.
She joined in the bonds of matrimony with Edward “Sandy” Sandstrom, the 1st of January 1955, Reno, Nevada. Their union was blessed with son Edward Grant and Julie Claire.
The family relocated to Delaware in 1957, when Sandy was stationed at Dover Air Force Base.
As an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Dover, Kay was involved in teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was a loving and involved mother to her children. As they grew, she re-entered the workplace. Her career included time associated with The Delaware State News and the Schwartz Theatres throughout the State. In the early 1980’s, she commenced a long career with the Delaware State Senate; serving in various positions, as a secretary, Majority Receptionist, retiring as the Assistant Secretary of the Senate in August, 2003. In the early years of 2000, she was nominated and confirmed as a member of the Kent County Board of Elections; a roll in which she served until her death.
A most avid reader, she consumed thousands of books. Known for her compassion and generosity, she would have given her all to family and friends alike. In her younger years she enjoyed boating on the Chesapeake Bay. The consummate hostess, she was well known for her many gatherings of family and friends. Most especially at the Christmas time, her beautifully decorated trees and her elaborately wrapped gifts were well known to all. Always the fashion plate, she was well known for her impeccable dress and stylish shoes.
Kay enjoyed time with her son, Eddy, and his culinary delights, and was grateful for his care and attention in recent years. Her extraordinary bond with her granddaughters, Jennifer and Janet Claire was beyond measure. Her loving attention to them was extended to their children. She was definitely a proud great-grandmother of seven.
