Diane Carberry Obituary

Diane Louise Carberry, 73, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on January 4, 2026, in Dover DE.

Born on March 28, 1952, in Southwest Philadelphia, Diane grew up in a closely-knit community which profoundly shaped her life. She often shared fond memories of her childhood, walking to
visit relatives and spending time at her father's shoe store.

Diane graduated from Upper Darby High School in 1969 and spent the following 40 years as a dedicated Flight Attendant, beginning with Alleghany Airlines and continuing with USAir and
American Airlines. She began her career in 1979 in Boston, MA before settling back in Philadelphia. Diane was known for her role as a purser on international flights, which allowed her to live her lifelong dream of exploring historic European cities like Paris, London, and Milan.  Evenings abroad were spent enjoying quizzo with local patrons, live shows of her favorite bands, and visiting historical landmarks and museums.

Music was Diane's first love; she traveled extensively to attend concerts by her favorite artists, including Steve Forbert, REM, and, later in life, Josh Ritter. Her home was adorned with countless photos and memorabilia from these shows, including personalized autographs from rock ‘n’ roll legends like Bruce Springsteen.

Diane was also an avid reader, enjoyed sudoku and crossword puzzles, and always found time for classic movies, especially ones starring Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn. When enjoying
these activities at home, Diane was often surrounded by her beloved cats. Her last and longest companion Pippin passed away just six days before her at the age of nineteen.

She is survived by her daughter, Laura Shoop (Robert); sons Robert and Richard (Rachel) and granddaughter Cora. She also leaves behind her sister Joanne Dilallo. Diane was preceded in
death by her parents, Joseph and Dorothy Carberry, and her brother, Joseph Carberry. Diane’s presence will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

A celebration of her life will be held in the summer of 2026.
