Debra Glanden Obituary

Debra Sue Glanden “Debbie” passed away surrounded by her family and friends on May 21, 2026, at the age of 64. She was born to the late John and Jeannette Melvin of Henderson Maryland on January 25, 1962. She graduated from North Caroline High School in 1980, and shortly after graduating she met her husband at the Sandtown dump.

Debbie was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother who dedicated herself fully to her family. She shared 45 years of marriage with her husband Garry Glanden Sr. Together, they raised two children, Garry and Kelly. They created a home filled with love and laughter. She was a wonderful, loving and patient mother. She taught them to be kind, and compassionate. Debbie loved being a mother, but she would say that there is nothing in the world like being a grandmother. Grayson and Maci were the loves of her life.

Debbie was a caregiver by nature and even chose that as a profession, and those who she cared for throughout her life quickly became family. The last 20 years she was employed at Camden Walmart as a front-end cashier where everyone knew her and loved her.  Debbie’s vibrant personality and ability to lighten up any room left an indelible mark on everyone she met. She had an effortless quality for drawing people in with her infectious smile and kind heart.

When Debbie was not working, she enjoyed dinners out, shopping, watching her grandchildren’s activities, and spending cherished time with her family and friends.  She loved Conway Twitty, classic country music and family cookouts.

Debbie was preceded in death by her parents John and Jeannette Melvin, her father-in-law Harry Glanden and brother-in-law Bruce Glanden.

Debbie is survived by her mother-in-law Mable Glanden, husband Garry, son Garry Glanden Jr. (Jenn) of Felton and daughter Kelly Church-Kimmey (Mike) of Harrington, her grandchildren Grayson and Maci. She was also survived by her sister Donna Cubbage (Bill) of Frederica, Linda Legates (Harry) of Marydel, and John Melvin (Kathleen) of Marydel.  In addition she is also survived by her sister-in-law Jane Gatts (Darryl) of Felton, brother-in-law Charles Glanden (Terri) of Willow Grove, and brother-in-law Delbert Glanden (Julie Watkins) of Kenton along with many nieces and nephews.
