David Hertzler, of Milford, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, July 6, 2021, in the Delaware Hospice Center, surrounded by his loving family. He was 78.
David was born November 20, 1942, in Norfolk, Virginia to the late, Harry & Edna(Wenger) Hertzler, and grew up in Virginia, Tennessee, and Pennsylvania. In 1978 he moved his young family to Cristal Lake School, a ministry of Northern Youth Programs, in Dryden, Ontario, Canada, to teach and administrate; continuing a career that spanned over 28 years teaching at several indigineous boarding schools. They later returned to Delaware where he continued in his teaching career at Del Tech, Greenwood Mennonite School, and Laws Mennonite Church.
He was an active member of Laws Mennonite Church as well as being involved in several different societies including the Delaware Nature Society, the Delaware Choral Society, Phi Beta Kappa, and Laws Mennonite Church. In his free time, David enjoyed music, gardening, reading, and was into nature preservation.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary June Rohrer, and his sister-in-law, Alma Hertzler.
David is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ilva(Yoder) Hertzler; 3 children, Edwin & Lori Jo Hertzler, of Selbyville, DE; Conrad & Heidi Hertzler, of Iowa city, Iowa; and April & Kent Garthwaite; his grandchildren, Alissa, Justin, Kayla, Sarah, Daniel, Victoria & Noah; his siblings, Joseph & Norma Hertzler, of Cumberland, Virginia; John Paul & Sue Hertzler; of Fairplay, South Carolina; Daniel & Ruth Hertzler, of Corvallis, Montana; Michael & Kay Hertzler, of Meadville, Pennsylvania; Lois Ann & Philip Danner, of Hanover, Pennsylvania; and Henry & Gwen Hertzler, of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; and a brother-in-law, Marvin Rohrer, of Browerville, Minnesota.
A viewing for family and friends will be held Friday, July 9, 2021 from 3-5 & 6-8 pm, in Laws Mennonite Church, 4874 Carpenters Bridge Road, Felton.
Funeral Services will be held at 11am, Saturday, July 10, 2021 , in the Greenwood Mennonite Church, 12525 Shawnee Road, Greenwood; where family and friends may view 1 hour before. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Mennonite Church Cemetery.
