It is with great sadness that the family of David Lee Baird announces he went home to be with the Lord on Friday January 31, 2025, at the age of 93 while on his daily walk to the YMCA. He was involved in a hit and run vehicle accident while crossing the Dupont Highway in which he passed away immediately following impact.
Dave was born in Lima, Ohio on May 20, 1931, to Marguerite (Steinle) and Thomas Baird. He was raised in Osterlind Orphanage in Springfield, OH. After graduating Springfield High School Dave served in the United States Air Force for 26 years, during which time he met Helen and they married in 1955. They welcomed 4 children into the world: Thomas, Bonnie, Bill, and BeAnn. He then retired from the military and worked for Chesapeake Gas Utilities and for the State of Delaware Weights and Measures.
Dave was a man of many passions including walking, swimming, tinkering on electronics, watching sports, and enjoying time with his family. He volunteered at the Modern Maturity Center, Meals on wheels (for over 16 years) and was a member of the VFW & The Mason’s.
