Darrel W Schrecengost

Darrel W. (Schrek) Schrecengost went to his Heavenly Home on September 2, 2023. He was born on July 5, 1938 in Rural Valley, PA. The eldest son of Wayne and Evelyn Askins Schrecengost. 

Darrel joined the Air Force at age 19 where he served for 4 years as an aircraft engine technician at DAFB. He then served as a patrolman for the Milford, DE. Police force from 1961-1964. Darrel missed the military so he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1964. He would spent the next 20 years there, retiring in1980 as a Chief Petty Officer. He was a career military man and took great pride in knowing that he was able to serve his country. He loved traveling with the Navy and being an aircraft engine technician. He served his country well. Darrel then joined the civil service, where he would travel the world as a power production technician for the next 11 years. Once again, he served tirelessly and selflessly to benefit his fellow man.  

Darrel loved to travel and learn about the multitude of cultures that he would encounter. He held great pride in serving his country and was loyal to the military.  He was most proud of his military accomplishments and his grandchildren.

Darrel joins his father Wayne, mother Evelyn and long-time special friend Margaret Bodner in the loving arms of our Lord. He is survived by his children, daughter Lisa (Larry) Rohlfing, daughter Michele Hayden (Chris) and stepson Jay Roberts and his grandchildren Hanna (Nicholas) Lynch, Jared Rohlfing and Kathryn Rohlfing, his brother Roy Neal Schrecengost of Rural Valley, Pa., nieces and nephews all of the Rural Valley, PA. and friends.

Services will be held 12 noon, Friday, September 15, 2023, at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming, Wyoming, DE where friends may call one hour earlier. Interment to follow at the Veterans Cemetery, Millsboro, DE.
