Dale Lester Melvin, age 71, passed away on July 30, 2025 in Philadelphia, PA, surrounded by loved ones. Born on October 22, 1953 in Milford, Delaware, Dale was the son of George A. Melvin and Margaret Melvin.
Dale was a proud Delaware native with a sharp sense of humor, a strong work ethic, and a deep love for his family. He was well known and deeply respected in his field, working as the Used Car Director at I.G. Burton for over 30 years—where he probably sold more cars than most people have driven.
When he wasn’t working, Dale could be found cruising on his motorcycle, getting his hands dirty building up his hot rods, or relaxing with his soulmate and best friend, Shawn Housman. But no matter what he was doing, family always came first.
He is survived by his brother, George Lee Melvin; daughters, Lindsay Nichole Blessing (husband Justin Blessing) and Krystal Melvin-Horschel (husband Paul Horschel); stepdaughters Natalie and Stacey; his 13 grandchildren; and his beloved fur babies, Polar and Bear. He is also lovingly remembered by his soulmate Shawn Housman; and her sons Dylan and Tyler Housman, who held a special place in Dale’s heart.
Dale had a quick wit, a polished style, and a heart big enough to fill every lot he ever worked at. He will be missed beyond words.
