Christian Harris Obituary

Christian Arron Harris was born on November 30,1998. He was the youngest of four children born to Curtis A. Harris Sr., and the late Deborah Ann Harris. Christian passed away from this life on April 24, 2021 at the age of 22. He attended the Lake Forest School District where he thrived during his academic career. On June 2, 2017, Christian graduated with honors from Lake Forest High School and set his sights on college to become a medical doctor. Although he had several options for continued education, Christian decided to stay close to family and attended a University close to home.

Christian, or “Chris” as his family called him, was a joy to be around. He was loved by his friends and his family even more. As the youngest of four siblings, he was the baby of the family and received special privileges that his older siblings did not receive. His smile and laugh would fill up a room. Although he was the youngest, Christian grew like a beanstalk and soon towered over both of his older brothers. As a child, he would always pretend he was a superhero and was able to do “amazing things.” He loved music and therefore challenged himself by learning new instruments. His first love was drums, and he later began learning the piano, guitar,

and ukulele.

Christian was born into a house of love and faith. His name was derived from his parents' strong Christian belief system. He was raised and imparted with Christian morals and values at an early age. In the first few years of his life, Christian was a member of Emmanuel Pentecostal Church of God, and later attended Immanuel Apostolic Church for the greater part of his life. There, he was an active and faithful member for several years. He loved to play the drums and was able to serve as a musician for regular worship services. His mothers’ passion for people influenced him to get involved with outreach ministry and volunteer work. He actively assisted in projects such as feeding the homeless, frequently visiting the elderly in nursing homes, and helping other ministries in the area reach people through music. Christian participated in and supported many of the outreach and community events sponsored by the Tract Team Ministry. In the illustrated sermon (stage play), “Why Didn’t You Tell Me?”, he was able to showcase his amazing talent and acting skills.

Christian was an athlete and enjoyed playing sports. At an early age, he gravitated to baseball making little league T-ball his debut into organized sports. In middle school, he began showing interest in football as well as track and field. His interest in music led him to develop the skills to play the snare drum. He played in the concert, jazz and marching bands as a percussionist. As Christian progressed into high school, he played lacrosse and continued to play percussion in the concert and marching bands. During his senior year he played running back and linebacker for the varsity football team. A leg injury would later take him from the game, but that did not keep Christian down. While on crutches, he would still be rooting for one of his favorite professional sports teams: the Los Angeles Lakers and the Pittsburg Steelers.

Christian was accepted into the University of Delaware College of Health Sciences in the Department of Medical Laboratory Studies, majoring in Biological Sciences and minoring in Theater Studies. In the fall of 2017, he began his studies at UD in preparation for medical school. He was a devoted student and received several scholarships for college including the University of Delaware Commitment to Delawareans Fund, McDonalds Scholarship Award, and federal academic grants. During his undergraduate studies at UD, Christian was accepted as a student researcher to do biological research at Tulane University in the Summer of 2019, and Delaware State University in the summer of 2020. Christian volunteered some of his time at local hospitals where he gained vital knowledge and an even greater passion for the medical field. In the fall of 2017, Christian pledged to the Zeta Beta Tau fraternity. As a member, he was able to be a part of a lifelong brotherhood that stood for intellectual awareness, social responsibility, integrity, and brotherly love. Christian was passionate about social justice, particularly as he learned more about the social conditions in our country. In order to help bring positive change to the world, he became an intern in the Biden Institute. As a Biden Institute intern, he worked with others to promote programming on campus by addressing domestic policy issues within the U.S.

Christian was a loving son, brother, uncle, and friend. He leaves to cherish his memory his father, Curtis Harris Sr.; brothers, Curtis Harris Jr.(Kymberli) and Courtney Harris; sister, Chelsea Harris; two nieces, Cahari and Carrington Harris, two nephews Curtis III and Channing Harris, and a host of cousins, uncles, aunts, god-siblings, and friends.

Christian was preceded in death by his mother, Deborah Ann Harris; cousin/brother, Courtlen Richardson-Kaiser; maternal grandfather, Nathaniel T. Floyd Sr.; paternal grandfather, James Henry Harris Sr.; and aunt, Eunice Mae Floyd.
