Cherolyn Mobley Obituary

Cherolyn Deniecie Mobley, affectionately known as Niecie, age 55, a native of the Bronx, New York and resident of Dover, Delaware, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 in the presence of her loving family at their family home in Camden, Delaware. Cherolyn was born to Frances Jones and James Mobley, Sr. on December 8, 1966, in Harlem, New York at Sydenham Hospital.

Niecie attended Christopher Columbus High School in the Bronx and later graduated from Bronx Community College. Her talent and love for caring for people is shown in her choice of occupations. Early in her career, Niecie worked as a Nursing Assistant at the Isabella Geriatric Center in New York, New York; Later, she worked at Psychotherapeutic Children's Services and Telamon Head Start as a Social Worker, both in Dover, Delaware.

At age 19, Niecie gave birth to her only child, Tamika McKenzie with Horace McKenzie of the Bronx, New York. In 1995, Niecie and her baby girl relocated to Delaware in order to be closer to family.

Niecie's life was full of music, dancing, and food. Her eclectic tastes had no boundaries. She loved many musical genres including Old Soul, Rhythm and Blues, Old School Rap, and New School Rap. Her true love was Reggae music. Niecie embraced Caribbean culture including food, music. She embarked on several trips to Jamaica, amongst other places. She shared her love of cooking with her daughter. As Tamika grew up, she and Niecie spent holidays together creating loving memories full of good food and music. They even created tree ornaments with the purpose of commemorating each year.

Niecie loved spending time with her family and friends. Her grandkids, Taleel and Taraji, were her pride and joy. She loved being a grandmother and gave Tamika a tremendous amount of help raising Taleel, her first grandchild. Niecie taught him so many things, including his first prayer, Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep.

Family gatherings always featured Niecie's delicious meals. Her Soul food and Jamaican entrees were always in high demand. If too much time passed between gatherings, she would make calls to plan an event on short notice. In addition to cooking, Niecie loved shopping and decorating. Her beautiful home and wardrobe was evidence of these hobbies. Niecie's shoe racks featured fashionable sneakers, boots, and shoes. She had a reputation of being "dressed to the nines.”

Niecie leaves to mourn her passing her: one daughter: Tamika McKenzie of Dover Delaware; two grandchildren: Taleel Trower and Taraji Dixon of Dover, Delaware; Daughter's Father and Very Good Friend Horace McKenzie of the Bronx, New York; Mother: Frances Jones of Dover, Delaware; Grandmother: Gloria Jones of Dover Delaware; Siblings: Anthony Romaine (Sadiqa) of the Bronx, New York; Adrian Marie Jones of Jersey City, New Jersey; James Mobley, Jr. (Romania Cooper) of Dover Delaware; Leo Martin (Ebony Bordley) of Dover, Delaware; Daniel Jones (Dominique) of Camden Wyoming, Delaware; and Nigel Aaron Jones of New Castle Delaware. She leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father: James Mobley of Harlem, New York; her brother: Steven Jones (Kari-Ann) of Dover, Delaware; and Grandfather: Joseph Jones (Gloria) of Dover, Delaware; Grandmother Leontha Mobley, of Harlem, New York; and Mother In-Law Monica Higgins of the Bronx, New York.
