Charles Garrett Obituary

Dover, DE: Charles “Glenn” Garrett was called home way too soon, Sunday, March 14, 2021, after a three-month battle with cancer.  His loving wife, Maryanne, and family members were by his side.

Glenn was born in Wilmington, DE on July 31, 1952 and grew up in the MOT area. After high school (MHS), he joined the army and was stationed in Georgia.  He received an honorable discharge and continued to live in Georgia for several years. Upon returning to DE, he received his Associates degree from DelTech and BA degree in Human Resource Management from Wilmington University.  He worked for the State of Delaware until he retired on December 3, 2018.

Glenn’s favorite pastimes were watching the Patriots and Atlanta Braves and playing the lottery (and winning too). He enjoyed traveling, visiting friends in Florida and family in PA and TN, spending long weekends in Ocean City, and fishing with his buddy, Mac. He cherished having a good time with his family and friends.

He was a member of the American Legion for 41 years.

He was predeceased by his parents Frank and Lucy Garrett, sisters Shelly Hart, Sue Hiscox, Shirley Friend and brother George Hall.

Glenn is survived by his loving and devoted best friend wife Maryanne; daughter Nila Sheets of Michigan and three grandchildren, Abby, Jeremiah and David; brothers: Lewis (Emilie) of Bear, Sonny (Cindy) of Houston, and Jack (Diana) of Rogersville, TN; sisters: Mary Reed of Middletown and Rae (Terry) Yingling of Odessa, and many loving nieces and nephews.

Graveside service with honors will be held 2 p.m., March 31, 2021, at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery in Bear, DE.

Due to the limited number of visitors allowed to attend the service, Friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life at 3 p.m. at Back Creek Golf Club, 101 Country Club Drive, Middletown, DE.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributing to the American Legion Walter L. Fox Post 2, 835 S. Bay Road, Dover, DE 19901.
