Carol Gladys (Reed) Deffley of Dover, Delaware, passed away April 10, 2018. Carol was born February 10, 1939 in Altoona, Pennsylvania, daughter of Garman Lawrence and Jessie Charron (Gearhart) Reed, who preceded her in death. She is of the Methodist Religion. She married Clair Larue Deffley in 1957, who also preceded her in death. She is survived by their two children – Tracy Lynn Papa and Meredith Jill Esposito; son-in-laws David and Joseph; and three grandchildren, Justin, Chloe and Hope.
Carol received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Sciences and Associate in Arts and Sciences. She worked as an assistant librarian of circulation and reserve at the University of Texas at Dallas, Texas. She had a window treatment fashion business for 15 years.
Carol was a very active person in several social clubs. She was a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Cameo Society – DAR, a Queen of Crimson Bonnet Chapter of The Red Hat Society, the Downstate Genealogy Society – Delaware, Blair County Genealogy Society – Pennsylvania, and the Centre’ County Genealogy Society, The Round Table Club of Camden-Wyoming, DE, Helping Hands Quilt Guild, Modern Maturity Center member and AARP National member, as well as a Master Gardener – Kent County, DE.
She volunteered at the Blood Bank of Delmarva and the USO at Dover Air Force Base, Dover, DE.
She loved quilting, acrylic canvas painting, decorating and flower arranging, yoga, exercise and walking her Boston Terrier, Zoe.
