Bret A Scott

Bret Alex Scott, beloved son of Patricia Holtz Scott and James Lawrence Scott passed away peacefully at Bayhealth Hospital Kent Campus on November 7th, 2024. Bret graduated from Dover High School in 1986. After graduation he served in the United States Air Force. In 1994 he graduated from Johnson and Wales University with a Bachelor of Science in Advertising Communications. In 2004 he received a Master of Science from Wilmington University in Public Administration.

Bret was intrigued by words and loved to write. In his career he held many media positions. These included assignment editor at WBOC, and staff reporter at the Delaware State News.  He was the Public Affairs Officer at Kent County Levy Court and held the position of President of the National Association of County Information Officers from 2009-2011. He most recently worked at Prestwick House as the Public Affairs official.

Bret was an avid sports fan and loved football, especially the Los Angeles Chargers. He was active in local organizations including the Dover Elks and the Dover American Legion Post for which he organized the annual Fourth of July parade.

He was preceded in death by his mother Patricia Holtz Scott. He is survived by his daughter Allyson Scott, his father James Scott, his sister Kendra Taylor, brother Jason Scott and numerous nephews and a niece.

He was a generous friend, loving father, son, brother and uncle.

A memorial gathering will be held at Pippin Funeral Home in Wyoming, Delaware on November 19th. Visitation will be 10am -12pm. As a veteran of the United States Air Force, Bret will be buried, with military honours at the Veterans Cemetery in Millsboro, Delaware at 1 pm.
