Betty Waters Obituary

Betty Ann Rebecca Waters was born on 1 July 1933 in Magnolia Delaware. She departed this life on 4 May 2021 at home surrounded by family.  She was the fourth of six children and first daughter born to Greenfield and Luvenia Minus. In her early years she attended school at Mt. Olive Elementary School and then to Booker T. Washington for middle school. She completed high school at the Delaware State College high school program. After graduation she attended Delaware State College for one semester but had to leave due to a medical condition. In 1952 she married Wilson Waters and in that union of 58 years they raised 11 children. She opted to prioritize raising the family over a working career. Family was very important, to her and she painstakingly instilled the values and tools needed for all of her children to become responsible and productive citizens. Betty loved the Lord and accepted Jesus Christ as her savior early in life. She introduced Christianity in the lives of her children in their early years and manifested it into their adult lives. She always reminded them to never forget how fortunate they were and to never forget their roots. Christian values were the hallmark of the Waters household infusing the teaching of the Bible to do unto others as you would have them to do unto you and treat everyone with dignity and respect. Because of her spirit led example, she became known as Mother Waters in her Christian Community as well as to many who knew her.  She always had a praise on her lips no matter what life circumstances befell her.  She was such a special woman full of love and understanding and willing to share herself with others. Her kindness was infectious, and she never hesitated to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. She instantly bonded with strangers and many of them became life-long friends. She was a truly special lady who will be missed by all with whom she came in contact. She was known for frequently asking thought-provoking questions and would wait patiently for your answers, always hoping for a teachable moment.

Betty was proceeded in death by her husband the late Wilson Waters Sr., parents George and Luvenia Minus; brothers Frederick, Marvin, Edward, and Homer Minus; daughters: Charlotte Waters and Mary Minus; and son Cornell Waters.

Betty leaves behind to cherish her memory and celebrate her birth into Heaven, four(4) sons Bruce (Norma) Melbourne, FL, Wilson (Fennis) Goldsboro, NC, Isaac (Vanessa) Hollywood, MD and Wyatt (Sheree) Dover, four(4) daughters: Meleta Kennedy, Dover, Chiquita Waters Houston TX, Pearl Stevenson (Richard) Dover, Gale Teare (John) Charleston WV, sister Doris Palmer (Thomas), 18 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren, a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
