Arlene Willard Obituary

After a hard battle with cancer, Arlene is finally with her loving husband Bob. She passed away on January 30, 2024.  She was born in Greenfield, Massachusetts on November 22, 1939 to the late Dean “Max” and Ethel Davis.

She spent her early years in Orange, Massachusetts and graduated from Orange High School in 1957. Following graduation, she went to work for the Erving Papermill.  She married her high school sweetheart; Bob Willard and they spent 61 wonderful years together.   When Bob’s company announced they would be moving to Dover, Delaware in June 1964, they packed up and moved south.  They settled in Wyoming, Delaware. Arlene and Bob raised their 3 children there.

While in the Delaware area, she attended St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church and was an active member of the bell choir.   She worked for the Caesar Rodney School District for 20 years, at Arnold Elementary School, as a well-loved “lunch lady” and cafeteria manager.   She enjoyed spending her time knitting, playing golf, and relaxing on cruises: but her favorite thing to do was spend time with her granddaughters and great grandchildren.

She is pre-deceased by her parents, her sister Jean Hurtle, her brother Brudy Davis, and her great granddaughter Madelyn Kerpen.  Her survivors are her daughter Jody Starke (Ken) of Wyoming, Delaware and sons John of Cortez, Colorado and James of Wyoming, Delaware; granddaughters Christie Bonniwell (Aaron), Shannon Kerpen (Eugene), and Savannah Willard; her great grandsons Chase & Wyatt Bonniwell and her great granddaughter Brinn Kerpen.

There will be a burial service, open to friends and family, on Saturday February 10, 2024 at 9:00 A.M. at Odd Fellows Cemetery, 35 Rising Sun Road, Camden, DE 19934. A Memorial Service will be held Sunday February 11, 2024, visitation will begin at 1:00 P.M. with the service to follow at 2:00 P.M. at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, 425 N. Dupont Hwy, Dover, DE 19901.  A luncheon will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church at the above address. Since it is Super Bowl Sunday, you are welcome to wear your favorite football jersey, as she was an avid New England Patriots fan. Online condolences may be made via www.pippinfuneralhome.com.
