Ann Marie Haggerty, age 52 of Harrington, passed away suddenly May 7, 2023. Ann was born Nov. 3, 1970, in Dover, the daughter of the late Richard and Betty McMullan of Woodside.
Ann was a proud 1990 graduate of Caesar Rodney High School and attended Wilmington University. She is described as a big-hearted “force of nature” who would never say no.
She took that never-say-no attitude into the several jobs she performed and in her main role as a wife and mother. Ann worked in the jewelry business and at Wilmington University, as well as for the state of Delaware in the Division of Developmental Disabilities Services. Most recently, she served as the vice president of mission advancement for the nonprofit Kent-Sussex Industries. She was dedicated to children with disabilities. Ann also served as the vice president of Kamp Lenape, as well as on the Board of Trustees and the Board of Beneficiaries of the Delaware Foundation Reaching Citizens With Intellectual Disabilities. In addition, she was co-chair of the Sussex County Auction.
Ann, growing up on a Christmas tree farm, started her own with her husband, Billy, where she also grew strawberries and other items, and recently planted 1,000 trees. Her “big heart” extended first and foremost to her husband and her children.
Further, her advocacy for the disabled population was unparalleled, and her loss will be felt statewide.
Her infectious spirit made those around her better, just by being in her presence. A simple phone call and the sound of her voice could change the direction of a bad day. Her light shined so bright, you could not help but be drawn to her.
No matter what she did, Ann’s every effort was born from love, and it was the warmth and depth of that love to which people responded so beautifully, especially her husband and children, to whom she was unwaveringly devoted.
She is survived by her best friend and husband of 22 years, Billy; her beloved children, Brandon Haggerty, Jenna Phillips (Brock) and Justin Haggerty; a granddaughter, Bailey; a brother-in-law, Kevin; Billy’s parents, Bill and Karen Haggerty; special friends, Drew and Kellie Fox and their son, Bennet; and extended family and friends.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 16, 2023, from 6-8 pm at Pippin Funeral Home, Wyoming. A funeral service will be Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at noon at Wyoming Church, Dover, where friends may call beginning at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Mount Olive Cemetery, Sandtown.
Memorial donations may be made to Kent-Sussex Industries or the DFRC.
