Ann Anderson, 81, of Dover passed away Saturday, September 6, 2025, in her home with her husband by her side.
She was born on November 30, 1943, in Salisbury, Maryland, daughter of the late Charlie and Ruth Leary Hickman.
Ann received her Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Delaware and was a teacher for over 20 years. Eighteen and a half years of those were with the Caesar Rodney School District.
From 1970-2010, Ann was with the Alpha Delta Kappa organization. She was also a member of Three Stones Church, where she sang in the church choir. She also sang with local community groups and other church choirs. When her husband was stationed at Montgomery Gunter AFB, she sang with the Officers’ Wives choral group, the Skylarks and in Panama she sang with the Base Chapel choir and enjoyed making lifetime friends.
She was active in many organizations, including an ADK member/officer for the International Sorority for Outstanding Women Educators, member of the Officers’ Wives’ Club, member of the United Methodist Women, president of the TKG Circle…To Know God, and a family service volunteer.
After retirement, Ann was a caregiver to a family member for ten years.
Ann loved to cook and bake and to can fresh local produce which she would share with friends and family. She loved to attend musical concerts and plays but most of all she loved to stay connected to “her kids”-former students. She would email from coast to coast and even across the Atlantic and she would share outings with all those who lived locally or when they came home to visit family. Ann also loved to travel, taking cross country road trips that were wonderful, as were the twice annual trips to Ohio to visit special friends that she met on the Alaskan cruise in 1993.
Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her stepfather, Horace Pepper, Sr.
She is survived by her husband Terrance Anderson, brother Curtis Hickman Sr. (Joyce), stepbrothers Sherran Pepper, Roland Pepper, Horace E. Pepper, stepsister Saralee Wharton, niece Stefanie Brunsfield (Scott), nephews Curtis Hickman, Jr. (Deanne) and Jason Hickman (Krissy), six great nephews and two great nieces.
Service will be 12:00 noon, Saturday, September 13, 2025, in the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming, Delaware, where visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow in Wilgus Cemetery, Roxana, Delaware.
In lieu of flowers, it was Ann’s wish for donations to be made to Three Stones Church, 1476 E. Lebanon Rd., Dover, DE 19901.
