Allen James Surprenant

Allen “Jim” Surprenant, age 80, passed away unexpectedly on April 30, 2025. Born on September 17, 1944, in El Paso, Texas, Jim was the son of the late Linus and Maxine Surprenant.

Jim was known for his warm humor, steady presence, and love for his family. He was a warehouse manager for Tecot Electric and afterwards as a self-employed general contractor.  He worked for many years as a construction contractor for GemCraft Homes.

After retirement, he transitioned later in life to a career as a professional driver—a role he enjoyed and took great pride in. He was a true handyman who loved carpentry and yard work, often building birdhouses and finding joy in birdwatching from his own backyard. He also enjoyed simple pleasures like rooting for the Eagles, computer games (especially solitaire), cornhole, horseshoes, and time spent with his wife watching movies. 

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 56 ½ years, Carol Surprenant; his sons, James Surprenant and Ray Surprenant; and his beloved dog, Maxine. He is also survived by his siblings, Judy, Jan, JoAnn, Joyce, and Jack, along with many extended family members and friends who will miss his sharp wit, caring nature, and unwavering support.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Jerome Surprenant, and sister Jinger Surprenant; his brother-in-law, Phil Holman; and his father- and mother-in-law, Paul and Evelyn Kutch.

A memorial service will be held at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden Wyoming Ave., Camden, Delaware19934, on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. The family will receive friends beginning at 4:00 p.m. For those who wish to honor Jim’s memory, the family invites you to consider making a contribution to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Faithful Friends of Delaware, or a charity of your choice in Jim’s memory.
