Alice Steele (steele) Lucks

WYOMING - Alice Irene Steele Lucks, 91, of Wyoming De., passed away Friday, December 18, 2020 in the Bayhealth-Kent Campus Hospital. She was born on July 21, 1929 outside of Henderson, Maryland, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mae Steele. 

She married the love of her life, John Lucks on November 20, 1947. Together, they raised three children, Beverly Evans, Janet Brittingham and John W. Lucks.  Alice lived on a farm and worked hard her entire life, whether it was at home or when she was employed at a canning factory and National Cup Company. 

She enjoyed raising her family and helping her sisters when they needed her. Her flower garden and the plants in her house were her pride and joy. She also loved sewing and making quilts for her family years ago and was proud of each one of them. She lived life to its fullest and will be remembered for her warm laugh, and great love for her family that she was proud of and being a farmer’s wife and owner of the farm after John’s death.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Dover and the Delaware Farm Bureau.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband John Lucks, daughter, Beverly Evans, son-in-law, Joseph H. Evans, her sisters, Esther Burlingame, Anna Mae Durham, Clara Camper, Alta Wingard, Edna Pfieffer, Catherine Hurd, Ruth Steele, brother Amos Jones and half-brother, Robert Steele. 

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Janet Brittingham and son, John W. Lucks; her grandchildren Kim Sears (John), Kevin Evans (Katey), and Jesse Lucks (Stacey); her great grandchildren, Beverly Delaney and Cassie VanBuskirk, and Kenna, Kylin and Kollins Evans; her sister-in-law, Betty Lucks; as well as several nieces and nephews. 

The family would like to express its deepest gratitude to all of her caregivers for providing comfort, care, and kindness to Alice and her family and to Helen Hart, her hairdresser, for years of keeping her beautiful each week. 

A private service will be held on December 23 at Pippin Funeral Home in Wyoming, Delaware.
