Alexis DuPont Nichols, Jr.

Frederica – Alexis DuPont Nichols, Jr. was born on August 30, 1963 in Wilmington, DE  to Marline Hagler and Alexis DuPont Nichols, Sr.  He went home to be with the Lord on March 13, 2021 surrounded by his family and friends at his home in Frederica, DE.

Alexis, also known as “Lucky” or “Alex” attended high school at Howard Career Center in Wilmington, DE.  He studied sheet metal fabrication and carpentry.  

Alex enjoyed all forms of construction and carpentry, auto mechanics, playing chess, and the gun range.  He also enjoyed a good hand of poker if he could find a suitable match. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Alexis DuPont, Nichols, Sr.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Patty Nichols of Frederica, DE; his loving mother, Marline Smith of Wilmington, DE; his six children, Tamantha Lolley of Wilmington, Geneva Lolley of Wilmington, Alexis Nichols III of Conway, SC, Ursula Nichols of Wilmington, Zachary Creath of Frederica and Gregary Creath of Frederica; five siblings, Roger Frisby and Carla Matthews of Wilmington, Tracya Nichols of Dallas, TX, and Keith Smirey and Kory Smirey of Wilmington; step-mother, Ethel Nichols and half brothers and sisters, Jennifer Morrison, Audrey Morrison, Angela Morrison, Michael Morrison, Eric Morrison and Shawn Morrison. Alex (Pop-Pop) was also a loving and devoted grandfather of 8 grandchildren, Anisha, Janiya, Amir, Jayden, Akeem, Ashanti of Conway, SC and Kalise and Kamari Lolley of Wilmington, DE; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Alex was a man of great faith and he and his wife and sons, Zach and Greg were members of Whatcoat United Methodist Church in Camden-Wyoming. DE, where he served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees.

Alex fought a long six year battle with esophageal cancer and remained in chemo for thos six years as he continued to work.  He stopped work in December, 2020 and entered into hospice care at home.

Alex worked in the lumber department of Lowe’s in Camden, alongside his younger sons, Zachary and Gregary.  He was also employed with R.E. Michael Co. and Atlantic Refrigeration in Lewes, DE.

Alex and his wife Patty owned their own construction company, “No Overhead Construction” for five years.

Alex loved nothing more than God, his family, friends and colleagues.  He was a lover of dogs and leaves behind his loving companion, “Thorne,” his mastiff-Labrador.  He enjoyed all holidays and any occasion to eat and socialize with family and grandchildren.  He longed to travel and spend his golden years with his wife Patty.  He left this life too soon, but rests in the arms of Jesus.  He is our guardian angel and all who knew him are richer for it.  You will be deeply missed, but you are FREE to FLY!

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to ALSAC/St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital for Research, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Services will be Saturday March 20, 2021 at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, DE and will consist of a walk through gathering from 9:00-10:45 am, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am.
