Aida Maria Maldonado-Cortes left this earthly realm on March 6, 2023, after a long battle with metastatic breast cancer. She was born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico on May 19, 1949. Aida lived life serving her family and the community. She relied in God for everything and was a humble and loving soul. Mom was the rock of our family and showed unconditional love and patience.
Mom loved to connect with nature by planting and gardening. She also loved to cook, there was never a day that mom was not in the kitchen spicing up some dishes for us and the people in our community. Mom was a sports fanatic she loved her Eagles and Phillies team. She would shout for joy when they would be winning and argued with the tv when they would be losing. Mom was a fervent church going person. She attended Centro Cristiano La Roca located in Philadelphia, Pa., under Pastor Julio Rodriguez leadership, then we relocated to Dover, DE, where we attended the Filipino and American Christian Fellowship Church pastored by Pastor John Welcome, and later joined IDDPMI-Casa de Esperanza under Pastor Eric Fontanez leadership.
It would be wrong to say that Aida lost her battle because she never stopped fighting. No matter how sick she was, she was always determined. When anyone else would have broken, Aida stayed strong. Through her, we know what resilience and perseverance truly look like. There was no quit in Aida. Just because she is no longer here, it doesn’t mean she lost her fight.
