Rebecca Mae Benson

Rebecca Mae Benson, of Dover, went home to be with the Lord, February 2, 2018, in Silver Lake Nursing Home. She was 82.

    Rebecca was born July 31, 1935, in Wilmington, DE, to the late, John & Sylvia(Todd) Brokenbrough.

   She had worked for Foster Grandparents for several years, and was a private caregiver for 17 years. Rebecca was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, Dover; the Red Hatter Society, Order of the Eastern Star, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

In her free time, she enjoyed cooking,   going for walks, doing  crossword and word search puzzles, and loving her grandchildren.

    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry L. Benson, daughters, Robin & Valerie,  a son, Terry, granddaughter, Iraina; and siblings, Deborah Edwards, Valerie , Elwood, John, Raymond, and Charles Brockenbrough; and her sister-in-law, Ina Brokenbrough.

    Rebecca is survived by her children, Harry J. Benson & his wife, Charlotte, of Frederica; Courtney L. Benson, of Coatesville, PA; Tanya M. Benson, with whom she resided; and Charles H. Benson, of Dover. her siblings, Granville Brokenbrough, of Felton; Freeman Brokenbrough, of Southern Pines, N.C.; Larry Brockenbrough & wife, Vondra, of Dover; Thurmond Brokenbrough & wife Linda, of Tacoma, WA.; Ronald Brokenbrough & wife, Dorothy, of Sacramento, CA; Barbara Sadler, of Wilmington; Roselyn Summers, of Dover, and Gwendolyn Tolliver, of New Castle. 18 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

    Funeral Services will be held at 12 noon Thursday, February 8, 2018, in Calvary Baptist Church, Corner of Fulton & Queen St., Dover ; where family and friends may view from 10-12 noon. Burial will follow in Whatcoat Cemetery, Dover. Condolences may be sent via: www.pippinfuneralhome.com.
