Mildred Gray Mister, 96, of Dover, Delaware, formally of Cottage City, Maryland, and Hyattsville, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Wednesday December 4, 2019, at the Silver Lake Nursing Home in Dover, Delaware. Born on December 31, 1922, in Cottage City, Maryland, Mildred was the daughter of the late Ross E. Gray and Ellen Boswell Gray. She was the youngest of three children.
A Maryland native, Mildred graduated from Bladensburg High School. In October 1940, she married the late Winfred E. Mister, and thereafter welcomed the birth of her son, William Gray Mister, and daughter, Barbara Jean Mister. In 2012, after retiring from the Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Mildred moved to Dover, Delaware.
Mildred never missed an episode of Wheel of Fortune and loved her family more than anything. She also loved holidays and family get togethers, and she especially cherished her time with her family at her summer home known as The Gismo Inn located in Montross, Virginia. Affectionately known by many as “Nana”, Mildred possessed a feisty, yet good natured sense of humor. She loved to spoil her grandchildren and great grandchildren - particularly at each holiday - and was well regarded by her grandchildren and great grandchildren as a strong advocate for opening at least one Christmas present early on Christmas Eve.
Mildred was the beloved wife of the late Winfred E. Mister. She is survived by her children, William Gray Mister (Betty Mister) of Fort Collins, Colorado, and Barbara Mister Dalgewicz (the late John E. Dalgewicz) of Dover, Delaware, grandchildren Bryant Dalgewicz, Caryn Vollmer (Raymond Vollmer), Alissa Cole (Drew Cole), and Tracy Mister, and great grandchildren Jacob Dalgewicz, Finley Vollmer, Nathan Dalgewicz, Gracelynn Vollmer, Eleanor Vollmer, Adalynn Cole, Harrison Cole, and Charleson Cole.
