Mildred Lorraine Tatum Graves passed away Friday, December 15, 2017 in her home. She was 93. She was born on September 15, 1924 in Little Coharie, NC, daughter of the late Eugene and Mittie Tatum.
Mildred grew up in Durham, NC, one of 13 children and attended Hillside High School. She married Joseph T. Graves on December 6, 1941. They moved to Newark, NJ and later moved to East orange, NJ. Mildred worked in shipbuilding during the war and later at the Bamberger Dept. Store. She also worked and retired from the East Orange school district.
She belonged to Seaford Presbyterian Church and other Presbyterian Churches where she would volunteer. Mildred belonged to the Read Aloud and Habitat, local Senior Center of Bridgeville and Seaford.
Mildred loved the Lord most of all and enjoyed sharing the word with others. She was proud that she introduced friends to God. She said her greatest accomplishments were serving God and loving people. She loved her family and would remember their birthdays and would send them cards. Mildred also loved to read, crochet, quilt and travel to see family.
She is preceded in death by her husband Joseph Graves and son Wilfred Tatum.
Mildred is survived by a daughter Lynn Carter and her husband James Carter, Sr., daughter-in-law Jeffrenia Tatum, granddaughter jeffrenia Tatum, grandsons Darriel J. Cannon, LaMont Cannon II (Joy), and James Carter, Jr., great grandson LaMont Cannon III, brother Herbert Tatum, sister Yvonne Tatum (Kali Sichen) and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
