Margaret "Maggie" Lee Slaughter

October 31, 1929 ~ November 5, 2017 (age 88) 88 Years Old

Margaret "Maggie" Slaughter, 88, of Dover, DE died peacefully in her son's home on Sunday, November 5, 2017.  She was born on October 31, 1929 and celebrated her 88th birthday surrounded by her family and friends.  Margaret was born in Mt. Vernon, MD, the daughter of the late William Dale and Margie Dashiell where her mother and father owned and operated the general store. She graduated in 1947 from Washington High School in Princess Anne, MD.  Her personal passions were family, friends, traveling, sewing, and doll collecting. She volunteered at the Regency Medical Center maternity unit, and her local churches throughout her life.  She was a member of OES, Red Hats Society and Women of the Moose.  Long known for having a good time, her generous nature is highlighted by her personal quote: "The best gift you can receive is to help others".  She is preceded in death by her husband Douglas W. Slaughter, Sr. and son William "Michael" Carter.

She is survived by her son Steven Carter and wife Kathy of Harrington, DE; son Douglas Slaughter, Jr. of Rising Sun, MD; brother Walter Dashiell and wife Bonnie of Delmar, DE; grandchildren Ryan Carter of Mardela Springs, MD; Evan Carter and wife Jessica of Hebron, MD; Russell Carter of Bowdoin, ME; Melinda Smith of Surprise, AZ; Barbara Carter of Bowdoin, ME; seven great grandchildren; Michelle McDowell of Greenwood, DE and numerous other nieces and nephews.

A private life-sharing memorial will be held at her son's home in Harrington, DE on Sunday, December 10, 2017 from 11 am to 3 pm.  Family and friends are welcome to stop by at any time.
