Joan Schafer Obituary

Joan M. Schafer of Dover, Delaware, passed away Saturday, June 30, 2018 in her home surrounded by her loving family.  She was 84.

Joan was born on January 14, 1934 in Salisbury, Massachusetts, daughter of the late Irving and Elsie Rich Perkins.  In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, David Stanley Schafer, her brothers, Irving R. Perkins Jr., Herman W. Perkins, Clayton E. Perkins and her sister, Grace H. Perkins Chase.

She had served in the United States Air Force. Joan had worked for the Delaware State News as an inserter and then Sam’s Club and Crossmark as a demonstrator.

She is survived by her children Debora Jarrell and her husband Mark, Diane Condon and her husband Daniel, sister Beverly Thivierge, nephew Mar Thivierge, grandchildren Jennifer Jurczak and her husband Jeffrey, Dawn Jordan and her husband Mark, Danielle Essenmacher and her husband Matthew, Denise Condon, great grandchildren Jeffrey Jurczak, Kyle Lehmann, Austin Condon, Cameron Edwards and Dylan Shroka and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 13, in the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming.  Burial with honors will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Rd., Bear, Delaware.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Seasons Hospice, 220 Continental Drive, Suite 407, Newark, DE 19713 or to the USO Delaware, 500 Purple Heart Way, Dover AFB, DE 19902.
