Welcome to the memorial page for

Harvey Sudler

January 4, 1939 ~ June 25, 2017 (age 78) 78 Years Old

Harvey Allen Sudler departed this life on June 25, 2017 at his home due to a long illness. Harvey was born to the late Herbert Marion Sudler Sr. and the late Grace Claire White-Sudler on January 4, 1939 in their homestead in Kenton, Delaware. He was the fourth child out of fifteen children.

Harvey retired from Johnson Control’s Battery Plant in Middletown, Delaware with many years of service. He was also an avid but at times disgruntled Eagles fan. His most treasured thing to do in order to pass the time away, was to sit in his garage and tinker away. Anyone who knew him, knows that if you needed any tools you could call on Harvey and he would have it for you or get it, but you had better return them. He loved going out to the Spencer’s Bazaar and while he was out you would often see him at the Dollar Tree, Ollie’s, and Harbor Freight. Daily he would often spend time with Herb (JR) and Melvin or just to call them to talk and to connect as brothers do. He called his little brother Seymour on Thursday nights just to check in and to talk smack as he had that special bond. He reserved Sundays for his special phone call with his daughter Amy and always had to say hello to his two grand-dogs Cinnamon and Gracie.

Harvey worked hard for what he had and he told anyone who came around, that working was good for you and that it pays off well. He was proud of his accomplishments like retirement and his Ford Excursion, in which he called “Big Dog”. Harvey was an active member of the United Auto Workers Local Union 1516. He loved to eat strawberries and had a secret recipe for them too. He also liked the Harrington Raceway & Casino Buffet especially for chitterlings, collard greens, and mac and cheese. More of his favorites consisted of crab cakes, rice pudding, cherry pie, spice cake, applesauce the Sudler way and ice tea.

Harvey was preceded in death by his Step-Mother Maggie Sudler, by Sister Evelyn Howard, and by Brothers Donald and Joseph “Melvin” Sudler.

Harvey leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving daughter Amy of Glen Allen, VA. Seven cherished sisters: Corrine Scott (Frank) of Middletown, DE, Vera Gautiere of Providence, RI, Phyllis Jackson of Orlando, FL, Nancy Coverdale of Dover, DE, Grace Gormley (Kevin) of Greensboro, NC, Eunice Ridgeway and Millicent Dennis of Saint Augustine, FL, Four Treasured Brothers: Herbert Sudler Jr. (Geneva) of Clayton, DE, Howard Sudler (Mary) of Northeast, MD, Roger Sudler Sr. (Juanita) of Dover, DE, and Seymour Sudler (Shallie) of Felton, DE. One Respected Sister-in-Law Bessie Diane Johnson-Sudler of Clayton, DE and One God Son Stacy Sudler Jr., Nieces, Nephews, and Friends.

The family would like to extend a special Thank you to Compassionate Care of Delaware, Roger Sudler Jr., Barbra Pressley, Latoya Johnson-Baynard, Earl Howard, Liz Miller, and Nurses Nia and Katera.
